who’s fighting you?

we’ve only got to answer to ourselves, no one else.

war leaves no place for family, no time for love, and no room for friendship.

we fight on for what we believe in, and whether it ends in victory or defeat, whether it had been a rational choice, it matters not. because what we believe in triumphs all.

no one should be judging the reasons we fought for, or the humanity behind our decisions, because we’ve all got something to believe in, and no line exists between that of anything at all.

so to all that we believe in, all that we fight for, cheers.

you tip the vase over the edge; the water spills, the china shatters.

the shards cut the flowers, the flowers start to wilt, start to sap.

and in the puddle, you see yourself; cold, clear, heartless.

the questions keep returning; banging on the doors, yelling down the corridors.

what drives us? what scares us? what fears us? what needs us?

do we know them all? do we remember them all? do we really?

when we start to forget, we know we’ve gotta start doing something about it.

And yesterday was awesome even though it was terribly spontaneous with Dinosaur Chua. Started out in the morning at Carl’s in PP for SDD meeting where we catwalked straws to simulate pageant fashion shows, followed by finding cloth for the sashes and katong laksa-ing in katong.

Then braised pig pangseh-ed us and Teo Heng was full before we ventured to KBox at eHub and spent four hours there singing mandarin songs while the couple from the other group and Jessie wandered outside because they came later and they were cash-strapped.

And that reminds me that we’ve yet to venture to Wild Wild Wet wooh!

maybe it’s time we all realised that life’s incomplete without strife.

the hour heats up, and the study gets rough. and diplomacy we know, but only some of us know enough to play.

that comforts people. that at times we can mask, at times we can hide, at times we can ask, at times we can fight.

does it really matter; who gets the bigger end of the half, who gets the redder side of the apple?

and when we find out that the only one slogging in the world is us; do we stop?

we can hoist banners and chant curses, or fade into the atmosphere;

the question is, what are the choices that we intend to make?

and do they know how our justification comes.

i value friends who spend time on me more than friends who spend money on me.

for one, its not like i cannot afford treats myself. and for two, money isn’t everything.

time, effort and heart is.

For those who are still unaware, we have won the ‘battle’.
Thank you everyone for your kind and undying support to this cause. Every single one of your dedication and belief has led to this outcome. It is without a doubt that the Victorian Spirit is very much alive and burning. Without the vast and ready support of the Alumni and current students, this would not have been achieved. Many thanks once again.
However, we must always remember that this issue may not be permanently resolved. Let’s always be on our guard and be prepared for any situations that may arise against Victoria School. If we do not hold strongly to our ideals, we know that this issue will resurface again in another few years. So, let’s stand tall and proud and always be ready to ensure Victoria School is forever triumphant. Because She is something more.
Let’s all do our part as Victorians, and contribute back to the School in whatever ways we can. It is only with the strength and support of the Alumni that the School can excel further. Let’s not wait for another crisis to come together. I suggest joining the OVA, where everyone can and will keep in touch, and ‘keep Her flag unfurled’.

Update (caa 10 Aug 2009):
Victorians, we must RISE & UNITE.
Over the first week, it is heartening to see over 1300 Victorians unite together in this cause. Thanks for your genuine support!
At this stage, it would be best if we could create more awareness to the many Victorians out there, who are still unaware. Please help to spread the message to all your friends and fellow Victorians. There are many ways, from facebook to MSN to SMS. Help invite all your Victorian friends on facebook especially. Thanks for respecting my humble request.
I still remember during the co-ed saga in 2005, many many many Victorians had changed their MSN nicknames to begin with "[Son of Victoria]" to show their love for Mother Victoria and also help create awareness among the community. It would be great if we could do that again now.
Many thanks again to one and all. Let’s unite and stand together as one. Victoria will always be something more. Always remember that what we are now, was seeded then – at Victoria School.

Clearly, words of a student of Victoria School, not a Son of Victoria, not a Victorian.

To have called it a war and to battle, instead of trying to foster and promote closer ties.

To have guarded Victoria School, and neglected Victoria Junior College.

To have wished students well for the ‘O’ levels, not the ‘A’ levels.

Simple things, but nonetheless significant.

We have never started to be a family and we will never be one if we do not learn that the Victorian spirit and culture is characterised by its intangibility, and not by treating both parties as organisations going through merger and separation under a common name.

And you ask why people have begun to lose sight of the Victorian spirit. Why it has diminished over the years and why there has been no improvement.

You ask why.

You’ve been answered.
